About Us

We love creating interesting and usable space. We add value to your home by making usable living or storage space where there was none. Whether it’s renovating an English basement or excavating one where none existed, developing an attic, building a porch, creating a first-floor bathroom or designing other additions, we make sure that we maintain the integrity of your home while increasing its value dollar for dollar. We structure our progress-related payments the same way we structure our designs, with the trust of our customers in mind.

During our initial consultation, we strive to understand your vision and what you are trying to achieve. We get a good sense of client design sensibility. We take care to listen first to the client. We expand on that by explaining the nuances, various architectural elements of space and structure and the necessary environmental considerations to create the right design. We consider with you the materials and challenges, and make recommendations based on our knowledge and experience.

Headquartered in Capitol Hill, historic renovations and preservations of older homes is our specialty. We take pride in making the “old look new and the new look old” so that a distinguished home maintains its character. Well-versed in energy conserving and green building techniques, we love the term “adaptive re-use” whereby we reuse old elements of your home or architectural salvage to reach the desired look.

Keil Construction takes the time to achieve the “period look,” and have the skilled craftsmen and artisans to execute the job properly. Our goal is to add value to your home by consulting with you to make the right design choices and executing our design faithfully.

A Progress-Related payment structure allows our clients to pay as each step of the process is completed and their original vision unfolds before their eyes. Like our philosophy, our agreements maintain the integrity not only of the design and build process, but the integrity of our customer relationships as well. We enjoy long-lasting client relationships, most of which are based on referrals.

Upon graduating from college, owner Jeffrey Keil arrived in DC to work as a government contractor but quickly fell in love with the city’s architecture and historic homes. So he purchased a vacant shell of a house, unrolled his sleeping bag and camped out. Literally. With no running water, heat or electricity, Jeffrey began working on his home, learning its intricacies and overcoming its challenges, until his labor of love became his vocation. Jeff Keil has more than 20 years of residential and commercial remodeling and renovation experience working on projects throughout the District of Columbia and metro area.
